Le matcha, un thé vert pas comme les autres

Matcha, a green tea like no other

Hello, fellow tea lover! 🌱 Today, we’re diving deep into the fascinating world of matcha, that powdered green tea from Japan. You might be wondering why everyone’s talking about it and why it has become a staple in kitchens and cafés worldwide. Well, let me tell you—matcha is more than just a fleeting trend. It’s a true natural treasure, a super-hero of teas, packed with health benefits and a rich, deep history.

A green tea like no other

Matcha is a powdered green tea, but not just any powder. It’s made from tencha tea leaves, which are grown in the shade during the final weeks before harvest. This unique method boosts chlorophyll production, giving matcha its vibrant green color and distinct taste, which is both smooth and umami. Once harvested, the leaves are steamed to stop fermentation, dried, and then finely ground between two stone mills. It’s a meticulous and delicate process, requiring generations of expertise.

More than just tea, a concentrated powerhouse

But why all this care and attention for a simple beverage? Because matcha is much more than your average tea. When drinking matcha, you consume the entire tea leaf, which means you get all its nutrients, unlike other teas where you only drink the infusion. This results in a much higher concentration of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Among its many benefits, matcha can enhance concentration, provide an energy boost without the side effects of coffee, and promote relaxation thanks to L-theanine, an amino acid that induces a state of calm.

The preparation ritual

As for preparation, matcha requires a bit more attention than your usual tea, but it’s worth it. You’ll need a bowl, a bamboo whisk (the famous chasen), and of course, water at the right temperature (about 80°C to avoid burning the powder). Start by sifting a small amount of matcha (around half a teaspoon) to prevent lumps, then add a little hot water. Whisk vigorously in an M or W motion to create a nice foam. Then, add the rest of the hot water according to your preference. And there you have it—a cup of matcha, ready to enjoy.

A moment of well-being in your day

Matcha is also a ritual, a moment of well-being in your day. Taking the time to prepare your matcha is like a form of meditation. Every step matters, each movement invites you to slow down and enjoy the present moment. So, the next time you feel stressed or need a boost, make yourself a good matcha. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll also discover a versatile drink that can adapt to your every mood.
