The 5 essential steps

Step 1: Gather your essentials
Before you begin, prepare your tools:
- A chawan (matcha bowl)
- A chasen (bamboo whisk)
- A chashaku (bamboo scoop) or a teaspoon
- Hot water (between 70–80°C)

Step 2: Measure and sift the matcha
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha into a fine sieve and gentlysiftitinto the chawan. This stephelpsremoveclumps and ensures a smooth, even texture.

Step 3: Add hot water
Pour 70ml of hot water (70–80°C) over the sifted matcha. Avoidboiling water, as it can alter the delicateflavors and vibrant color of the matcha.

Step 4: Whisk for a fine foam
Usingyour chasen, start by gentlymixing the matcha and water, then whisk vigorously in a “W” or “M” motion. The goal is to create a light, airyfoam—an indicator of a well-prepared matcha.
